Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited (DOSCEL)
Living Faith in Catholic Schools and Parishes.
In the Diocese of Sale, Catholic schools are communities where faith is lived, nurtured and experienced each day. Schools work in partnership with families, parishes and the wider Church to support the faith formation of young people, recognising that this is a shared and ongoing journey. Through their culture, values and daily life, Catholic schools provide environments where students are welcomed, supported and accompanied in their spiritual growth.
Across the Diocese of Sale, Catholic schools play an important formative role in supporting families in the religious education of their children. Faith is nurtured not only through classroom learning, but through the witness of the community, opportunities for prayer and reflection, and experiences of belonging and acceptance. Schools create spaces where young people can explore their spirituality, encounter the message of Jesus, and begin to understand the relevance of faith in their lives.
In the Diocese of Sale, faith formation is shaped through a dialogical and reflective approach that brings faith into conversation with life. Students are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions and engage with the Catholic tradition in ways that are meaningful in today’s world. In a diverse and increasingly secular society, this approach supports young people to develop a more mature and reflective faith, helping them to grow in confidence, form their identity, and recognise the beauty, strength and hope found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Religious Education Curriculum
In the Diocese of Sale, the Religious Education curriculum, To Live in Christ Jesus, invites students into a loving and meaningful relationship with God. Through learning experiences grounded in Scripture, the life of Jesus Christ and the Catholic tradition, students are supported to recognise God’s presence in the world around them, in their relationships and within their own lives. The curriculum encourages spiritual awareness, helping students to grow in their understanding of faith and to explore the possibility of a personal relationship with God, lived out within a community of faith.
Religious Education also supports students to develop a deeper understanding of themselves as individuals created in the image of God. Through opportunities for dialogue, reflection, discernment and critical thinking, students are encouraged to form their own beliefs and make decisions guided by a well-formed conscience. Schools promote a positive and hope-filled environment where students can grow in confidence, recognise their dignity, and develop a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives.
An important dimension of Religious Education in the Diocese of Sale is the connection to the wider Church and the world. Students learn about the life, mission and traditions of the Catholic Church, while also engaging respectfully with other worldviews and perspectives. Through dialogue, social awareness and care for creation, students are encouraged to see how faith is lived in action. In this way, the curriculum supports young people to grow not only in knowledge, but in faith, relationships and a commitment to contributing positively to their communities.
Approach to the Sacraments
Preparation for the sacraments in the Diocese of Sale is family-centred, parish-based and school and catechist supported.
Children generally celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation during their primary school years:
- Reconciliation
- First Holy Communion
- Confirmation
Schools work closely with parishes to support families through sacrament preparation that includes learning sessions, prayer and parish celebrations. This collaborative approach helps children understand the meaning of the sacraments and their place within the life of the Church.
Students are taught about the sacraments through the Religious Education Curriculum, To live in Christ Jesus. This content extends from Foundation to Senior Secondary.
