Catholic school communities are built on positive relationships. There are many parents, grandparents, carers and other community members who regularly volunteer to run fundraising events, school concerts, help out in the classroom and generally help the school to become a wonderful place to meet other parents, to get to know teachers and enjoy the learning environment with our children.
More recently there have been changes to the way volunteers are managed in schools due to the introduction of the Child Safe Standards in Victoria.
Each school will have different ways of inducting volunteers and ensuring that child safety is at the heart of volunteering. Each volunteer in a Catholic school must now have a working with children card and be willing to share some background information about themselves before volunteering.
The following link provides more detailed information and guidelines from CECV on working with volunteers but we encourage you to talk with your school Principal to find out how volunteers are managed and inducted into the school volunteer program.
